Club Scholarship named for Sheridan Drowatzky.
April 2, 2009, An annual $2,000 scholarship awarded by the OU Club of Wichita to a student from central Kansas has been officially named the Sheridan Drowatzky Scholarship. Ms. Drowatzky was an OU alum and long-time board member who passed away on March 11, 2009. The first Drowatzky Scholarship winner will be named in April and recognized during a visit of the Sooner Caravan on June 30 in Wichita at the Hilton Wichita Airport “Sheridan’s contributions to the local club were immeasurable,” said OU Club of Wichita Board President Mark Chamberlin. “As a former teacher, Sheridan took a special interest in our scholarship program and the board thought this action was a fitting tribute.” Each spring, applications for scholarship are reviewed and the board allocates a number of $1,000 awards. Those $1,000 scholarships are matched by the University of Oklahoma Alumni Association allowing each student to received $2,000 toward their education. “Anyone who knew Sheridan recognizes how fortunate we were to have someone so passionate about education and the university on our board,“ added Chamberlin. The awarding of the Drowatzky scholarship will take on special significance from this day forward. This is a one year $2,000.00 award ($1,000.00 per semester) and is available only to University-accepted Freshmen or first year students from the Greater Wichita area. This award is based on academic performance, extracurricular activities and articulation of goals and plans. Each semester's award consists of $1000.00 which will be applied directly to out-of-state tuition (known as a tuition fee waiver).
